How can we ensure responsible Gen AI conduct?

Companies are leading the way in using Generative AI (Gen AI) to advance sustainability goals, with even greater potential ahead. Gen AI boosts innovation, improves efficiency, enables better decision-making and cuts costs – all crucial elements in driving sustainability progress. However, like any innovation, businesses must ensure that AI technology is used responsibly, ethically, and in ways that respect the dignity and rights of individuals and communities. On January 27 2025, we kicked off our Sustainability Spotlight Series with an insightful webinar to explore how companies are using AI to drive a sustainable future, while safeguarding human rights.

Key takeaways

  • The double-edged sword of Gen AI: While generative AI has enormous potential to advance innovation and problem-solving, it also carries risks, including bias, misinformation, and human rights violations.
  • Addressing bias in Gen AI: A key challenge with Gen AI and human rights is bias, which can lead to discriminatory outcomes and worsen inequalities. To prevent this, Gen AI systems must be designed with fairness, transparency, and inclusivity to avoid harm and promote equity.
  • The importance of ethical frameworks: Responsible development and deployment of Gen AI require strong ethical guidelines and transparency to mitigate potential harms.
