Last Wednesday, SDG Nederland presented its tenth National SDG Report 2026 at 'Route 2030' - the annual multi-stakeholder SDG platform. National SDG Coordinator Anna Pot, MKB-Nederland Director Leendert-Jan Visser, and SDG Nederland Director Rob van Poelje shared the key findings of the report with policymakers, businesses, and civil society.

The keyfindings

> Sustainability is no longer optional, but a core strategy for Dutch business to secure continuity, competitiveness and productivity

> The biggest reported barriers are grid congestion and slow permitting, which blocks green investments - even when companies have the willingness and budget to invest

> Growing chain collaborations, Net-Zero commitments and inclusive employer practices are holding firm despite international political pressure

> Businesses are calling for stable and predictable policy, faster infrastructure decisions, workable CSDDD/due diligence rules, and sustainable public procurement

> Digital tools and AI are increasingly important for supply chain transparency

The next few years will be decisive for whether 2030 goals are still reachable. The Netherlands will present a joint Voluntary National Review to the UN in 2027, and until then, the work is ours to do. At the UN Global Compact NL, our focus will remain on going forward.

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝗶𝘁𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗳 𝗶𝘀 𝗰𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿 𝗼𝗻 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗵𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗲𝗻:

  • Strengthen public-private cooperation
  • Make sustainable procurement standard practice
  • Ensure European due diligence rules work for entire supply chains, not just direct partners
  • Invest in digital tools for supply chain transparency

The report is a joint effort, and we’re glad to have contributed alongside VNO-NCW, MKB-Nederland, VNG, Unie van Waterschappen (Dutch Water Authorities), Dutch Sustainable Growth Coalition, Social Enterprise NL, Nationale Jeugdraad, NWO (Dutch Research Council), Sustainable Development Solutions Network and Building Change.
