What will it take to achieve the SDGs? The Sustainable Development Report 2026 offers key insights and priorities for the years ahead.
The Sustainable Development Report 2026 "Implementing Sustainable Development: 2030 and Beyond" has been launched, reviewing how the world is advancing on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
With less than four years remaining until the 2030 deadline, progress on the Sustainable Development Goals remains far too slow. Currently, only 16% of SDG targets are on track to be achieved. At the same time, the report highlights practical examples from businesses, governments, and local communities proving that sustainable development can be achieved when action is prioritized and investments are aligned with long-term goals.
To help close the SDG implementation gap, the report identifies eight priorities for accelerating sustainable development through 2030 and beyond:
1) End current conflicts and redirect excessive military spending toward peace and human development.
2) Establish ambitious national roadmaps for SDG implementation.
3) Organize action around six major sustainability transitions.
4) Develop long-term investment plans aligned with sustainable development goals.
5) Strengthen continental, regional, and local cooperation.
6) Introduce innovative global taxation mechanisms to finance global public goods.
7) Create effective global governance frameworks for AI and biotechnology.
8) Establish new UN campuses in Asia, Africa, and Latin America.
The report also presents findings from two new Sustainable Development Solutions Network surveys: (1) one capturing expert perspectives on government SDG efforts and (2) another exploring public views on barriers to implementation and priorities for a post-2030 agenda.
To prepare for the final stretch toward 2030, the Sustainable Development Report serves as both a wake-up call and a roadmap for action.
