Homenews

The Hague, 04 June 2026. At its General Assembly at the World Forum, the UN Global Compact Network Netherlands elected Monique Lempers as its new Board Chair. Lempers, currently the Chief Impact Officer at Fairphone, succeeds Bianca den Elsen following the completion of her term.

Lempers steps into the role with over two decades of experience driving sustainability, supply chain ethics, coalition building and organizational transformation. Her background bridges corporate strategy and grassroots impact, including her pioneering work in sustainable electronics at Fairphone, IDH and SOMO, alongside senior advisory roles at PwC.

"We see governments around the world hesitating, stepping back, questioning and rethinking agreements made together - that worries me. But it also strengthens my conviction: business cannot wait for political will. We need to take the lead and show that sustainable business is not just about doing good, but also a powerful competitive driver for a stronger and more resilient economy. I cannot wait to get started"
Monique Lempers - Chief Impact Officer, Fairphone

Monique joins us at a critical turning point. Her track record in systemic transformation is what we need as we look ahead to our national 2031 strategy. We are pivoting from uniting businesses to actively mobilizing them, giving the Sustainable Development Goals a final push as the 2030 deadline fast approaches, while simultaneously building the foundation for what comes next.
Merei Wagenaar - Executive Director UN Global Compact NL

The network extended its sincere gratitude to outgoing Chair Bianca den Elsen for her dedicated leadership and contributions during her tenure.

Lempers has shared a personal message with the network welcoming members into this next chapter. Watch her video message here.
